Impact resistance of bio-inspired sandwich beam with side-arched and honeycomb dual-core

The work explores computationally the impact resistance of proposed bio-inspired sandwich beam comprising top and bottom carbon fiber reinforced polymer laminate skins sandwiching side-arched hot melt adhesive aluminum honeycomb dual-core, as by beak, skull bone, hyoid, spongy bone woodpecker head. Examined geometrical effects on behaviors include arched core thickness (3, 4.6, 10 mm) leg span (10, 25, 35 mm). For performance appraisal, contact force, stress transmission, damage area, absorption energy are assessed. models with thickest may depict highest absorption; thinner cores different spans maximally stressed. Nonetheless, it is overall found that a thin performs optimally due to its high efficiency index.
